In a world full of mass-produced products, there is something truly special about returning to the basics. If you’ve been feeling like your skin is constantly dry, itchy, or just "blah," the secret might not be a more expensive lotion—it might be the soap you’re using in the shower every morning.

Handmade soap is more than just a pretty bar on your bathroom counter; it’s a powerhouse of nutrition for your skin. Here is why making the switch is one of the best things you can do for your self-care routine.

1. Say Goodbye to "The Nasties"

Most commercial "soaps" you find at the supermarket aren’t actually soap at all—they are synthetic detergent bars. To make them foam up and last forever on a shelf, companies often fill them with:

  • Sulphates & SLS: These are harsh foaming agents that strip away your skin’s natural oils, leaving you feeling tight and dry.

  • Parabens: Used as preservatives, these have been a hot topic in clean beauty for years due to their ability to mimic hormones.

Handmade soap skips the chemicals. By staying sulphate-free and paraben-free, you’re giving your skin a break from harsh irritants and letting it breathe. To sell soap in the UK we have to have every recipe assessed and approved so although the nasties aren't there, your soap will be safe and has been scientifically approved.

2. The "Big Three" Ingredients

When you look at the label of a high-quality handmade bar, you’ll see ingredients you actually recognise. These 3 ingredients are key to my soaps. Here’s the "dream team" that makes handmade soap so luxurious:

  • Shea Butter: Think of this as a big drink of water for your skin. It’s incredibly moisturizing and rich in vitamins A and E.

  • Olive Oil: A classic for a reason! It’s a gentle antioxidant that protects the skin without clogging pores.

  • Coconut Oil: This provides that satisfying, bubbly lather we all love, while its antimicrobial properties help keep skin clear and healthy.

3. Natural Glycerin (The Secret Ingredient)

In commercial manufacturing, glycerin (a natural humectant that attracts moisture to the skin) is often removed from soap to be sold in expensive lotions. In the handmade process, the glycerin stays right in the bar. This means your skin stays hydrated long after you’ve stepped out of the bath. It's not an ingredient that is added but it is created naturally by the saponification process.

4. Better for You, Better for the Planet

Handmade soap makers usually focus on small-batch production, which means less waste and more intention. You’re often supporting a small business, and because the ingredients are biodegradable, you’re being much kinder to our waterways. All of our soap is wrapped in natureflex, it's a starch based wrap which is compostable. We wrap them to help preserve the essential oils that are used to scent the soaps.

Making the Switch

Transitioning to handmade soap is an easy way to turn a mundane chore into a spa-like ritual. Your skin is your body’s largest organ—it’s time to start treating it with the love it deserves!
