First time using a new cake mould from @aldiuk (I know I wasn't buying anymore moulds!!)
This lemon soap is packed with orange and lemon peels which have turned these little packages this colour. Soap with natural colours from clays often dries slightly lighter so this will be interesting! Without the peel the soap would be the colour of the 2 flowers in the second picture.
We're trying a couple of adaptions to our salt soap recipe to include hemp oil for it's skin benefits. We subbed the salt for peel on this test batch to see what it does. We'll let you know!

Have you tried salt soap? It's perfect for gentle exfoliation whilst also getting the lovely oils and butters to help moisturise your skin. People who have tried it tend to make the swap but lots of people think using salt in soap is off putting.

We use natural clays in all our soaps to colour them and add a bit of very mild exfoliating power but salt takes it to the next level. The thing with salt soap is it is really hydrophilic, it loves moisture! That makes it quite hard to store if there is any moisture in the air. We made a decision near the end of 2024 to make our salt soaps to order. It means they're always super fresh and really are small batches! We had 2 orders from lovely customers this week both wanting salt soaps so we made them the same day.

It was also a little chance to experiment. We have adapted our recipe to now include hemp oil. (As well as Shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil and castor oil.) Still packed with skin loving ingredients!

The orange colour soap is another experiment, we've swapped the salt for orange and lemon peel as this should have great exfoliating power too. We often get asked for "scrubby" soaps for gardeners, this might be it. We'll let you know after giving it a try!

Did you know hygiene poverty has been hugely increasing as a consequence of the rise in cost of living? The Salvation Army on the Island is doing something about it and has started a hygiene bank, similar to the food banks we're too familiar with.
This box of "perfectly imperfect" slightly wonky soaps has gone to help them to help others. There's always the odd bar which is a bit light or didn't turn out quite as expected but that we don't want to waste. We're very happy to be able to help after all, washing hands with soap is a basic requirement to stay healthy.

Do you own a @hummingbbakery cookbook? If not, we really recommend you do! We have several and they're our go to for what have become family favourites. The recipes are so easy to follow and they always turn out well. This cookbook is well used.

This was the @bea_muncaster birthday request. Grasshopper pie. It might not sound like it, but it's absolutely delicious. A light, minty marshmallow with an @oreo chocolate biscuit base. (We make it in the summer without the green and mint and put fresh berries in it and on it). Really easy and quick to make, Cadbury's mint buttons used this time to finish it off but usually we crush up a mint aero rather than the extra cream. It's definitely worth trying if you've never had it.

Found a little time this morning to make a new batch of our dog soap. It's been selling out quick and we have none left at all. These will become soap on a rope, lots of customers have found the rope helpful for washing their pooches.
Like our human versions these are made with natural ingredients and lightly scented with essential oils.

Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo bar with peppermint and tea tree essential oils. It's curing now for 5 to 6 weeks at least. It makes a great shampoo bar, is long lasting and it's plastic free. It's also vegan.
We only make our soaps and shampoos in small batches. Technically this is a double batch (20 bars)! We use apple cider vinegar as it's a good rinse for hair.

This is our Apricot and Cinnamon soap. The same recipe has been used for both batches but the creamy coloured one is cold processed, the other is made with the hot process method. We don't do HP very often, it takes longer and produces a more rustic finish.
There's no colouring added to this, the colour is from the cinnamon powder. Technically this soap is also unscented but it smells good enough to eat! The cinnamon in it gives it a warm wintery scent. There were also fresh apricots in the recipe, the sugar in the fruit helps with bubbles.
This is a vegan soap, SLS and paraben free, it also includes coconut oil and coconut milk, Shea butter, olive oil and castor oil. It might become a new favourite! It's an event exclusive but if you're not likely to see us in person please DM us.

There's a lot of soap wrapping today. 30 bars of beer soap done, next up it's Bergamot and Patchouli and then some soap on a rope. It takes much longer to prep labels and wrap soap than it does to make it! All of our soaps are packaged in Naturflex; a starch based compostable film.

We haven't used these moulds for a while and I forgot how nice they are! These are our popular Honey soaps made with @bunburybees honey, harvested from across the island and absolutely delicious, although you obviously can't taste it in the soap! The honey makes them extra bubbly and gentle. These have no artificial ingredients, just natural goodness.
They are very limited in number at the moment. They're off to cure and will be with us at our December Christmas markets.🐝
